Get Ahead of the Holiday Rush: Important Fall Tasks for REALTORS®
October 27, 2026
The holidays have a way of sneaking up on you. One minute you’re enjoying the first signs of fall, and the next you’re juggling Thanksgiving plans, holiday events, end-of-year paperwork, and a jam-packed calendar.
This flurry of activity can definitely take a toll. In fact, a 2024 Monster survey found that 53% of workers felt more stressed than usual during the holidays…and REALTORS® are no exception! Between helping clients navigate transactions, keeping business operations running, and managing personal commitments, the end of the year can quickly become overwhelming.
So, with November and December fast approaching, now is a good time to tackle a few tasks that might otherwise get pushed to the back burner. A little preparation now can help make the final months of the year more manageable.
Review active clients and transactions
First and foremost, before the holiday rush begins, take a look at your current clients, pending transactions, and active listings. Are there deadlines coming up, follow-ups you need to make, or details that need attention?
Check in with clients to make sure they know what to expect, especially if a closing or other important milestone falls near a holiday. Taking time to get organized now can help prevent last-minute surprises and keep things moving smoothly when schedules get busy.
Clean up your database
When was the last time you really looked through your contact list? If it's been a while, now is a good time to clean up your CRM and make sure all contact information is up to date, including clients, colleagues, vendors, and other professional contacts.
Remove duplicates, update phone numbers and email addresses, and make notes about where you left off with past clients and leads. You may also want to organize contacts into groups so you can follow up more easily going forward.
Check in with clients
Before everyone gets flooded with holiday party invites and Christmas cards, take some time to touch base with past clients and other important contacts you haven’t talked to recently. A quick phone call, a handwritten note, or an email is an easy way to let clients and colleagues know you’re thinking about them, and that you’re available if they have questions or need help with a future real estate matter.
Get your marketing ahead of schedule
Once the holidays hit, it can be tough to find extra hours for creating social media posts, newsletters, and other marketing content. So, if your goal is to relax a bit over the holidays, set aside some time in October to create a content calendar for November and December, and consider scheduling posts in advance.
And while you're tackling digital marketing, don’t forget to review your website and online profiles. Make sure your contact information, bio, and other important details are up to date.
Take care of the administrative backlog
We all have those tedious little tasks that somehow keep getting pushed to the next day. Maybe it’s organizing files, cleaning out your inbox, updating transaction records, reviewing expenses, or catching up on paperwork. Whatever keeps landing at the bottom of your to-do list, fall is a good time to tackle it before the holiday season gets into full swing.
Review your finances
The new year will be here before you know it, so now is a great time to look at where your business stands financially. Review your income and expenses, check outstanding invoices, and make sure your records are organized. You may also want to talk with your accountant or tax professional about any year-end items you should be thinking about before December 31.
Set your holiday calendar now
Your personal calendar is probably filling up quickly, so make sure you factor in your business commitments, too. Look ahead at Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year’s, and other dates when your availability may change. If you plan to take time off, let clients know early and make arrangements for anything that needs coverage while you’re away.
Start thinking about next year
You don’t need to map out every detail of the new year just yet, but fall is the perfect time to start thinking about what you want your business to look like in 2027.
What worked well this past year? What didn’t? Which types of clients or transactions would you like to focus on? Are there systems you’d like to improve or skills you’d like to develop? Take a few notes or jot down ideas to revisit as you begin planning for the year ahead.
Remember, the holidays are supposed to be a time to slow down and enjoy the people around you. But with so much to juggle, it’s easy for the end of the year to become stressful as personal and professional commitments compete for your time. Taking care of a few things now can help make the weeks ahead more manageable, giving you a little more time to relax and make the most of the holiday season!
