Six Months Down, Six Months to Go: Is Your Business on Pace for 2026?

Six Months Down, Six Months to Go: Is Your Business on Pace for 2026?

Back in January, your goals probably felt clear.

Maybe you planned to increase transaction volume, grow your network, earn a new designation, strengthen your social media presence, or finally create systems that would make your business run more efficiently.

Six months later, those goals may still be within reach. Or perhaps they were pushed aside by market shifts, busy schedules, and the day-to-day demands of serving consumers.

The good news? The mid-year mark offers something January can't: perspective.

Instead of guessing what might happen, you now have real-world experience and results to evaluate. That makes this time of year ideal to pause, assess what's working, and make intentional adjustments for the months ahead.

Stop Measuring Effort and Start Measuring Progress

At the mid-year mark, many REALTORS® discover that being busy and making progress aren't always the same thing.

You may have already worked harder than ever this year. You've answered calls, attended events, hosted open houses, managed transactions, and solved problems for consumers. But being busy doesn't automatically mean you're moving closer to your goals.

Revisit the objectives you set at the beginning of the year and compare them against measurable outcomes:

  • Am I on pace to reach my transaction goals?
  • Has my database grown as much as I expected?
  • How many referrals have I generated?
  • Have I invested in the professional development I planned to pursue?
  • Which activities have produced the greatest return on my time?

Your answers may be a mix of encouraging and humbling. Either way, they'll provide a much clearer picture than simply relying on how busy you feel.

Identify What's Actually Holding You Back

If you're not where you hoped to be by June, resist the urge to label the year a failure.

Instead, look for patterns that may have diverted your efforts:

  • Have I spent too much time on low-value tasks?
  • Have I been inconsistent with prospecting?
  • Did market conditions change my original assumptions?
  • Have personal responsibilities affected my ability to focus on business goals?

Obstacles don't always reflect a lack of effort. The most successful REALTORS® regularly evaluate how they spend their time and make adjustments before small problems become yearlong setbacks.

Keep the Goal, Change the Strategy

A common reaction to falling behind on a goal is to abandon it altogether.

While goals sometimes need to shift, it's worth asking whether the goal itself is the problem or if the strategy needs to change.

For example, if your goal was to generate more referrals but your networking efforts haven't delivered results, it may be time to focus on strengthening relationships with past consumers. If your marketing plan isn't generating engagement, experimenting with a different platform or content strategy may be more effective than simply posting more often.

Goals provide direction, but the path to achieving them can and should evolve as circumstances change.

Don't Forget to Celebrate Wins

Mid-year evaluations shouldn't focus exclusively on shortcomings. Take time to acknowledge the progress you’ve made, especially achievements that weren't part of your original plan. Perhaps you've built stronger community connections, improved your transaction management process, or developed skills that make you a more effective advocate for consumers.

Success isn't always reflected in a single metric. Recognizing what you've done well helps build momentum and confidence as you approach the second half of the year.

Focus on the Next 90 Days

Thinking about six months of unfinished goals can be overwhelming. Looking ahead at the next 90 days feels much more manageable.

Identify two or three priorities that will have the biggest impact on your business and commit to specific actions that move them forward. January may have been when you set your goals, but June is when you decide whether they’re still guiding your daily decisions.

A thoughtful mid-year check-in can help you reset and refocus. And if the first half of the year didn't go exactly as planned, remember: there's still plenty of time left to finish strong.
