Celebrating the Retirement of Carol Fischer

Celebrating the Retirement of Carol Fischer

After nearly 33 years of dedicated service to the Calhoun County Area Board of REALTORS®, Carol Fischer’s approaching retirement leaves behind a legacy that reflects resilience, adaptability, and a passion for the industry.

Fischer began her career as Association Executive with the board on June 15, 1992, stepping into a role without formal onboarding or training. Back then, she didn’t even have a computer to rely on.

“Everything I’ve learned has been self-taught,” she recalled with a laugh. “When I started, everything was done manually — financials, meeting minutes, agendas. Looking back, it’s almost surreal to think about handling those tasks without today’s technology.”

Through determination and an eagerness to grow, Fischer shaped the Association Executive position into what it is today. She actively pursued professional development, attending numerous National Association of REALTORS® meetings and classes. About a decade into her tenure, she earned the prestigious REALTOR® Association Certified Executive designation. For a time, she was the only real estate professional in Alabama to hold this honor.

Over the years, Fischer has witnessed immense changes in the real estate industry — from rapid technological advancements to evolving market trends and business practices. Yet one thing remains constant: the camaraderie and care among her colleagues.

“Before joining this industry, I didn’t realize just how competitive it could be,” she said. “But amidst the competition, there’s an incredible sense of community. Here, we’ve truly been like a family, supporting one another through it all.”

Similar to her job, where no two days look the same, Fischer’s retirement, which is set to begin on February 1, holds the promise of exciting activities. She intends to transform two outbuildings on her property — one into a creative workshop for her handmade soaps, lotions, and bath bombs, and the other into a photo studio with a fully equipped darkroom. Beyond that, she looks forward to traveling, utilizing her skills as a master gardener, quilting with her church group, and continuing her involvement in the association’s volunteer efforts.

“I’ve loved my job because every day has brought something new,” she said. “Now, I’m excited to dedicate my time to the hobbies and passions I’ve always loved but couldn’t fully pursue.”

Alabama REALTORS® extends its heartfelt gratitude to Carol Fischer for her many years of outstanding service and wishes her a joyful and fulfilling retirement.
