Alabama REALTORS® Board of Directors October Meeting Recap

The 2024 Alabama REALTORS® Board of Directors met on Wednesday, October 30th at the Alabama REALTORS® Building in Montgomery. The Board considered governance proposals from our Governance and Elections Presidential Advisory Group (PAG) that has been meeting for nearly three years and conducted other Association business. The PAG’s recommendations included updates to the Association’s Policies and Procedures and reflected the dedication of many members who have generously contributed their time away from their businesses and families for the betterment of the state association and its members. We sincerely thank everyone who has contributed to this process. A summary of the action can be found below:

  • Motion 1 – Articles of Incorporation: This update aligned AAR’s Articles of Incorporation, originally filed in 1949 and last updated in 1969, with the latest state laws, including the 2023 updates to the Non-Profit Statute and the 2024 creation of the Statewide Trade Association Act. It modernizes outdated language, such as removing references to a male-only organization, and reflects current practices without altering operations.
  • Motion 2: This update clarified director terms, definitions, and standardized the vacancy process. 
  • Motion 3: This revision updated the credential and elections committee, established a new candidate qualification process with background checks for officer candidates, and introduced campaign rules, including a complaint and violation process.
  • NAR Update and Legal Report: The Board received a legal update regarding NAR, Alabama legal developments, statewide legal forms, and external legal challenges.
  • Alabama REALTORS® Foundation Scholarship – The Alabama REALTORS® Foundation Education Scholarship is open for applications! Applications for the Fall 2025 school year are open now through December 31, 2024. If you know of a member with an eligible child or grandchild, please be sure you share the information with them.
  • REALTOR® Day at the Capitol 2025: On February 11-12, 2025, Alabama REALTORS® will host REALTOR® Day at the Capitol in Montgomery, Alabama. Stay tuned for more information!
