AREC Holds May Meeting

AREC Holds May Meeting

Commissioners with the Alabama Real Estate Commission (AREC) met on Thursday, May 20, for their monthly meeting. With Commissioners Cummings and Smith participating virtually, the meeting followed the usual agenda. Commissioners approved minutes from the April meeting, heard from the executive director, and conducted hearings.

The executive director reported the Governor’s emergency order ends on July 6 and Commissioners will no longer be able to participate virtually after the June commission meeting. An AREC task force has been meeting to help determine the best way to handle virtual education. A report is expected in the coming months.

Hearings

The Commissioners heard an extensive list of cases, even after several docketed cases were continued to the June meeting. Hearings included four applications for a salesperson’s temporary license, two complaints, four applications for a determination of licensing eligibility, three requests for extensions to various deadlines, one hardship request for a home operation waiver, and one application for license instructor approval after a license law violation.

Upcoming Meeting

The next AREC meeting will be held on June 17 at 9 am at the AREC building in Montgomery. Information on the June meeting and future meetings can be found at the Alabama Open Meetings account here.
